After a couple of mellower nights this year, our March 9th edition at Maglianero qualifies as nothing short of a blowout. We had a great turnout of riders and spectators which made for a full evening of sprinting action. What better place to do it than in a bicycle-oriented coffee shop?
In addition, I had recruited and cajoled my fellow planners from the Vermont Planners Association to come out and sprint with me. We planners spend a lot of time alone, in our small offices dispersed throughout the cities and towns of the state, and it's nice to get a chance to come together from time to time (and to ride bikes!) Planners also tend to be pretty hip to the whole bike thing, since bike-friendly places are the kind of places we are all working to help our employers create. If you like good bike racks, bike lanes, places to shower after your commute to work, and cool places close enough to your house to ride to, hug a planner!
We had a BUNCH of people! That meant I was pretty flat out getting people on the bikes, recording times, and generally hobnobbing, which also means I didn't have a whole lot of time to take pictures. I did jump outside to see what it looked like from the street, though.
And there were results! (My apologies if I missed anybody here, I was moving fast and trying to get all of the times down.)
Based on those results, we moved on to quick men's and women's "final four" brackets:
Noah C. took the evening for the men, and Bonnica Z. won it for the women. Given that I dragged all of my fellow planners out for the night, I also wanted to see if I could put together a list of planner times and rankings. This is what I've got, and all times here are for 250 meter sprints:
1. Meg T: 13:309
1. . Eric V: 12:259
2. Alex W: 13.538
3. Paul C: 13:559
Planners: who did I miss? I know there were some of you there who didn't ride, but could it be that there were really only FOUR of you on the bikes?
Fact checkers: please have a look at the results sheets and let me know if I have any errors in there! Season-long winners, please let me know if I have your season point totals correctly! (I am a little short on season prizes (STUFF) right now and not sure what that those points will mean, but, at a minimum, there's (GLORY).
I came home exhausted, elated, and ready to do it all again on March 23rd, which we will, at the Switchback Taproom from 5-6PM.
See you there,
